The First Aid at Work qualification is valid for three years. To renew their certification, individuals who have previously attended a 3-day First Aid at Work course have two options. Hearing a 2-day First Aid at Work requalification course can refresh their first aid skills. Alternatively, they may prefer to retake the 3-day First Aid at Work course if they have not had frequent opportunities to utilise their skills.
Additionally, the regulations now recommend that first aiders complete annual skills update training in the years between qualifications. This ongoing training can significantly benefit individuals who need more opportunities to apply their first-aid skills.
By adhering to these guidelines and regularly refreshing their training, first aiders can ensure they are well-prepared to respond effectively in emergencies.
When a First Aid at Work certificate expires, you are no longer eligible to act as a first aider in your workplace under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. You must attend a 2-day First Aid at Work requalification course to continue serving as a first aider. Alternatively, if you have not had many opportunities to utilize your first aid skills, you may undertake the total 3-day First Aid at Work course.
It's important to note that you will only be considered qualified once you have completed the requalification training. No grace period is provided for First Aid at Work qualifications. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that your certification remains current to fulfil the requirements of a first aider in your workplace.
No, there is no longer a grace period for First Aid at Work requalification. It is essential to schedule and complete the requalification training before your current certificate expires. This ensures a seamless transition and prevents any interruption in your ability to provide first aid services.
